The Foundation Stage
The period from birth to the end of
the reception year is distinct and important in its own
right and is known as the Early Years Foundation Stage.
It has its own
specific curriculum and helps prepare children for the beginning
of the National Curriculum in Year1.
At BRUNEL the children
in the nursery and the reception class are all following
the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum guidelines.
The EYFS is made up of six areas of Learning and Development. All areas of Learning and Development are connected to one another and are equally important. All areas of Learning and Development are underpinned by the principles of the EYFS.
The areas of Learning and Development are:
-
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
-
Communication, Language and Literacy
-
Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
-
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
-
Physical Development
-
Creative Development
