Class work

We aim to set work appropriate for pupils' individual needs wherever possible. Many factors inform us of the individual requirements of your child including test results (S.A.T.s etc) and discussions with their Year 2/3 teachers. Your child will be expected to work independently, with an adult or in group situations as appropriate to the task and their learning needs.

Reading

Your child will read regularly in school but we do expect every child to read for at least 10 minutes everyday at home and for their reading record to be signed by an adult. These books will be checked regularly and will be used by Mrs Hooper to add to your child's record of books for ‘Book Trail'. Your child is responsible for changing his/her individual reading book.

Homework

We consider homework to be a very important part of the curriculum in Year 3/4. We hope that this will not only prepare your child for Year 5 and 6, but also help to improve their research skills. Homework could include weekly spellings as well as other research items. Your child will have their own homework book for which they are expected to be responsible

YEAR 6 Class Work Groups

You will be put into sets (groups) for Literacy and Numeracy, which will take place every morning.

We have looked at many factors to decide which group to put you in, including tests (e.g.. C.A.T. S.A.T.'s, reading etc.) and most importantly by discussions with your Year 5 teachers. We try very hard to put you in the most suitable group at the beginning. However, there will be some children who will not be in the best group for them, so we keep the groups flexible, so that you may change if it is necessary.

The first review of the groups will take place in the Autumn Parents' Evening and changes will only take place when we have discussed it with both you and your parents.

Homework

We consider homework to be a very important part of the curriculum in Year 6. You will find that there will be a greater amount than you have been used to and it may be quite challenging. However, we hope that this will not only prepare you for secondary school but also help to improve research skills.
